Staying connected can be a challenge while practicing social distancing, especially if you're not one to participate in the most popular forms of social media. Here are some alternatives (even when the time comes when we no longer have to practice social distancing):
1. Start a blog or nurture one that you already created.
2. Comment on someone else's blog.
3. Send an email to a loved one.
4. Write a letter to a loved one, the old-fashioned pen to paper way.
5. Call someone you haven't spoken to recently.
6. Text someone. Voice calls are great, but sometimes texting is a reasonable alternative.
7. Connect with nature by opening a window (or more than one) and breathe in the fresh air.
8. Spend time outside, in a social distancing sort of way.
9. Offer to help a neighbor by buying their groceries (and leaving it outside their door).
10. Watch a news conference that's relevant to where you live. You don't need to delve deep into the news to obtain relevant information.
11. Play an online game.
12. Take an online class. Many are offered for free or for just a small fee.
13. Cook a meal that's a family favorite.
14. Take pictures of anything that interests you, indoors or outdoors.
15. Listen to music.
16. Listen to a podcast.
17. Make a card for someone. Don't forget to send it!
18. Look at or organize old photographs, digital or otherwise.
19. Read a book.
20. Read a magazine.
21. Read poetry.
22. Binge watch your favorite show.
23. Watch a movie. 23b. Review it.
These don't all involve connecting with people, but sometimes it's important to connect in other ways, too. I encourage you to take the opportunity to do this. Just think, one day normalcy will resume and people will ask, "How did you spend your time?"
What will you say?
