Watching this movie was like putting together the pieces of a puzzle. The MCU as a whole is like that, but Age of Ultron was a puzzle in itself. I watched it three times and I finally got all the pieces to fit together. (I think.)
In my review for Guardians of the Galaxy, I wrote that the foul language was unappealing to me and I felt the movie could have been better without it. I had to laugh then, when in the beginning of Age of Ultron, Captain America said to Iron Man, "Language!" I actually busted out laughing at that comment and I found it amusing that this was a recurring issue throughout the movie - not a lot, but enough to make me smile and say, "See! I'm not the only one who doesn't like foul language!" High five, Cap! I'm with you on this one, buddy.
As far as the plot goes, there was a lot going on in this movie, but once I figured it all out I was able to fully appreciate it. I didn't really enjoy it the first time I watched it, but I liked it more the second time, and even more than that the third time. The special effects were also well done, even watching it on my t.v. at home, and not at the theater.
I loved the evolution of Wanda Maximoff's character in Ultron. First she was against the Avengers, then she sided with them, and finally she became one of them. I think she's going to make an exceptional Scarlet Witch and I'm excited to see her in future movies, although it seems my two favorites, Thor and Iron Man, will not be part of the team next time around, which is disappointing. There seems tension on the team at times, though, so maybe time apart is a good thing.
I enjoyed learning more about Hawkeye. I think he's one of the coolest characters and deserves more screen time. In fact, I still say he needs to have his own profile movie.
At first I was a bit annoyed (yes, really) that someone besides Thor was able to lift his hammer. I thought it made Thor seem less unique. However, it made sense to me later why Vision was able to have such power. It was one way to show us he was not human.
Although a bit disjointed in my mind, I liked the movie overall. It was engaging in all the ways I've enjoyed most Marvel movies so far. I have to admit, though, I'm not liking Tony Stark/Iron Man nearly as much as I did in his first movie. I think that's just a testament to the development of his characters, though. Kind of like (but not really) Loki. I don't like his character, but I'd love to see him in future movies.
So, next up is Ant-man. I've been waiting a long time to see this one. Yay!
I understand having to see the movie three times. There is a lot of happening and a lot of new characters. Funny how Tony keeps causing so much trouble. I did not like Ultron on my first watch, he felt too whiny and unstable. What I liked a lot was Veronica. The characters were better developed. An overall improvement from the first Avengers movie.
ReplyDeleteYes! I think Tony causing trouble is why I'm not as much a fan of him anymore! I think I liked the first Avengers more, but this one was fun, too. :-)
