Months ago when I started to gain more interest in the MCU, I picked up Ant-Man from the library because I was intrigued by the whole concept of such a character. When I got home I did some research and found that there are almost a dozen movies that come before this one, so I decided to return it without watching it until I watched the movies that came before it.
Finally, it was Ant-Man's turn, for real this time.
When I borrowed it this time, I looked more closely at the cover of the DVD and recognized one of the actors. It turns out that actor is the one who played Ant-Man, Paul Rudd. He is very familiar to me because he had a recurring role in the later years of one of my all-time favorite television shows, Friends, which I regularly watch in reruns. I have always enjoyed watching him as Phoebe's husband. It must have been quite a challenge to fit in with such a well-established and well-loved cast, but he did. So, before I even pushed play on this movie, my hopes were high.
Watching Paul Rudd play Ant-Man was like watching Phoebe's husband carry on with his life after Friends. I mean that in the sense that his personality was similar to who he played on Friends. He was caring, but also light-hearted and a bit comical. It gave me a sense of comfort. Forgive the cliché, but it felt like home. He just had a far more adventurous, or perhaps daring, side to him as Ant-Man.
I have probably written this for a few MCU movies, but this was one of my favorites that I've seen so far. It wasn't a complicated plot that required too much thought, but it held my attention the entire time. (And it gave me an even greater appreciation than I already had for ants.) It also had the right amount, and the right kind, of humor for my liking. The supporting cast was as much a pleasure to watch, in fact, at times even more so, as the main characters were. Everyone needs a Luis in their life - someone who is enthusiastic about life and about sharing his experiences with others. I think I smiled every single time a mere syllable came out of his mouth. His buddies were very likeable, too.
It always amazes me how the creators of these movies are able to connect each one in the MCU. I was so happy to see Agent Carter again. My heart really went out to her in Captain America: The First Avenger. I was sad for her at the end of that movie and I wondered what happened next with her. I'm glad the MCU has done her character justice in other movies. It was also a pleasure to see Falcon in this movie...and the setup for Ant-Man being in future Avenger movies. As Luis said (in only a way that Luis can explain...lol), Falcon is now looking for Ant-Man.
The end of the movie left me feeling satisfied, yet at the same time, wanting more. And thankfully, there will be more.
I have become Ant-Man. On summer days there are ants coming through the seams of the floor. Some days there are none, some days there are a few, some days there are more than a dozen. At first I was annoyed, but now we are friends. I like to observe them and ask them where they're going (they haven't answered). They tend to stick to a particular corner of the room, but when they start to wander off I gently scoop them up and place them outside.
ReplyDeleteLol!! I'm glad you all are friends now. I can't say I'm as welcoming to ants inside my home as you are, but I do enjoy watching them outside. Please do let me know if they answer you! :D
