Happy Birthday! It's that time of year again when I share highlights from the previous year.
April has become one of my favorite months of the year. Dare I say, my absolute favorite? I mean, I still love the weather and colorful leaves in October, but April has brought me so much joy the past couple of years.
The Malice Domestic Convention was once again the major highlight from last year. It is always held in April at the same hotel in Maryland. I so wish I was a reader like you when you were here because we would have had so much fun attending together.
It was my second year attending and I loved it even more than the first year. Having done it once, I was more comfortable being there. Not that I wasn't comfortable there in 2024, but in 2025 everything was familiar to me. Some authors who attended the previous year were not there last year, but on the other hand, some authors and some of my reader friends who did not attend in 2024 did attend last year. I got to meet even more friends I had only known online up to that point. More than once I've heard it referred to as "Disney World for mystery fans" and I couldn't agree more. It covers all sub-genres of mystery, but there are a lot of cozy mystery authors and fans who attend. I registered for this year at the end of last year's event. I can't wait to attend again!
Another highlight in April was getting to snuggle with a baby goat who was born on my birthday. There were two sets of twins who were born on my birthday, but only one was interested in snuggling, for a short time anyway. I'm planning to do this again this year. They are so cute! My little Tinker Bell sometimes prances like a baby goat.
Today is National Puzzle Day. Since I would have given you a birthday gift today, I'm switching things up and giving myself a gift. I ordered a few micro puzzles. They're called micro puzzles because, as you can imagine, they're small. They consist of about 150 pieces and the entire puzzle, when complete, measures 4x6 inches. I still love larger puzzles, but I also love the satisfaction of completing one sooner.
In weather news, it has been very, very cold. You definitely wouldn't like it. I don't mind, as long as the electricity stays on. We got several inches of snow and sleet this past weekend. Because of the thick layer of ice, everything is taking a longer than usual time to clear. Schools have been closed all week so far and it's already Thursday. I've had to cancel a few appointments or switch to virtual whenever possible. Wow, thinking about that makes me realize how much has changed since you departed from this world. I don't think virtual appointments were a thing when you were here! And YouTube was just getting off the ground. You'd be amazed at the advances in technology.
Well, I'm going to go eat lunch. I made overnight oats for lunch. A lot of people eat that for breakfast, but I prefer my smoothie in the morning. I'll also finish watching a Hallmark movie I started this morning. It's called Love on the Amazon. Blah. Hallmark does this theme every January called "Winter Escape". They think people want to escape from the winter season. They don't cater to people like me who love winter! I miss back when they made non-Christmas winter movies in January.
Take care. I'd say until next year, but I know you're with me in spirit every single day of every year.
Luv ya lots,
Meezan
