Since I mentioned in yesterday's post that Qandi would be going to the vet today, I thought I'd share the results of that visit.
The procedure for visiting the vet is still with restrictions due to the ongoing pandemic. Humans cannot go inside the building with their pets. I called the vet upon arrival and moments later an assistant came outside to get her. After a little while, the vet called me while I was waiting in the car. We discussed my concerns including the spinning and her many knots. The vet said she could see a neurologist to address the spinning issue, which she does every time before doing her business and when she is excited that food is on the way. She also does it randomly at other times. The random spinning has now even emerged into revolving around her food and water dishes. Occasionally she bumps her dishes and spills her water, but most of the time she somehow manages to avoid doing that.
Due to her age, the vet said he would not recommend going that route to see a neurologist and I agree. As long as her overall quality of life is good, which it is, then we'll just leave that alone. He said without having tests done, which we will not do, it's difficult to pinpoint the reason why she spins. It may or may not be related to the fact that she can't see.
As far as the knots go, he was able to get a few small ones out, but she will need to see a groomer for the rest. He recommended having a groomer do a house call, but I would rather take her to one. I don't want her home to become a stressful environment and I'm afraid that might happen if someone she doesn't know comes to tend to her. I will make an appointment for her to see a groomer next week. The vet recommended one nearby.
The vet trimmed her claws and thankfully they were cut much shorter than when an assistant did it at her last visit. She shouldn't have to have her nails done for a while now. I'm hoping she can wait until her annual appointment in the summer.
She has gained only one quarter of a pound, according to the scale at the vet. I'm not surprised that she gained wait, but I expected it to be more than that. The vet is pleased with her weight gain and he said he sees no reason to check her blood pressure (her heart rate wasn't bad either) nor her thyroid at this time. So she will continue on the same meds she's been taking. The vet was impressed to know she takes her meds so easily with food! I informed him that her appetite is outstanding.
Qandi was very nervous on the car ride to the vet. She spun in circles inside the small carrier on the short, five-minute drive. However, the vet said she cooperated very well and when she was was done, she was much calmer than she was on the way over there!
When we got home, she had a nice, quiet day. She seemed a little on edge for a short while, but she recovered quite well. Hopefully this will be her last vet visit until summer. Off to the groomers next! Hopefully sometime in the next couple of weeks.
