"Murder, She Baked: A Peach Cobbler Mystery" - SPOILER ALERT

On my plate today was a double serving of "A Peach Cobbler Mystery", the third movie in the "Murder, She Baked" series. It takes place within a few days of Valentine's Day, although the scenery looks a lot like fall. Hannah's sister, Andrea, is now five months pregnant. While this movie has the same cozy mystery vibe as the first two and a similar formula, even with the victim being murdered by gunshots again, there are some differences.

This time, the title actually has something to do with the plot. Not a lot, but certainly more than the first two. In "A Peach Cobbler Mystery" Hannah finds herself in competition with a baker who opened a similar shop just across the street. A chain of events lead to Hannah teaching the new baker who doesn't know how to bake how to make a peach cobbler. The new baker is eventually murdered and, as usual, Hannah is the one who discovers the dead body. It turns out, as Hannah the baker was able to figure out rather quickly, that at the time of the murder, Melanie (the now deceased) was taking the peach cobbler out of the oven. Because Hannah was with Melanie when she had started making the peach cobbler, Hannah is able to figure out the precise time that the murder took place. Unfortunately for Hannah, she still does not have an alibi.

Predictably, this time Hannah is a suspect in the murder. She has a motive (competition) and no alibi. However, also predictably, that would be way too obvious and we know Hannah will not turn into a murderer. The challenge is for her to clear her name, which she eventually and predictably does.

Unlike the first two, we have some suspicions early in the movie, which actually turn out to be somewhat accurate. The plot is a bit more complex than the previous two, though, so the motive is not clear until close to the end of the movie. Then, as in the previous two movies, Hannah finds herself (a.k.a. puts herself) in the vicinity of the suspect, and Prince Charming (detective Mike Kingston), along with his crew, comes to Hannah's rescue and arrests the one who committed the murder. Whew! Peach cobbler mystery solved.

The love story also sort of continues. Mike cannot spend time with Hannah in this movie because she is a suspect. Perfect! In swoops Norman (the dentist) who suddenly has her all to himself for a while. But life isn't that simple and Hannah is still unsure of who she wants to be with, if either of them at all. I absolutely adore the end of this movie. Both men ask her to be their date on Valentine's Day. So who does she choose?  Her mother!!! The last scene in the movie shows Hannah getting dressed up and ready to serve a fancy dinner. Someone knocks on the door and it's not only her mother, but to Hannah's surprise, also her sister! So the three of them enjoy a lovely Valentine's Day dinner...along with Hannah's beloved cat, Moishe. It's beautiful and purrfect in every way.
