"Murder, She Baked: A Deadly Recipe" - SPOILER ALERT

The Friday special was a double helping of "Murder, She Baked: A Deadly Recipe". This is the fourth movie in the "Murder, She Baked" series. I guess they finally realized having a specific dessert in the title that doesn't have a whole lot to do with the plot, if anything at all, was not a good idea. While there isn't a literal deadly recipe in this movie, it is a more fitting title in a figurative sense.

But today I want to start with the love story rather than the mystery. Detective Mike Kingston is really starting to annoy me. He has no respect for Hannah, who has been such a key player in solving these mysteries. He thanks her for finding and thinking of some very important clues, but then basically tells her she needs to stay out of the way. Every single time!

Say Whaaaaaaaaat?!?!

In real life, which I realize these movies are not, anyone who provides clues to solving crimes, murders at that, would not be dismissed like this. Give the girl the credit she deserves! They do seem to have chemistry and his attitude towards her does not seem to bother Hannah, but I do not believe they are right for each other. He does care about her very much, but he's also mean to her!

And then there's Norman, the dentist. He's a good guy with a big heart and deep respect for Hannah. He supports her and even kind of teams up with her. He treats her the way a woman should be treated.

Yet, I do not believe he is right for her either. There are no sparks between them. The "it" factor is simply missing from their relationship. Sigh.

As for the mystery, Hannah is with her sister when they discover the dead body. Hannah makes it clear that Andrea saw him first, but Hannah was standing right next to her when this discovery was made. So basically, once again, Hannah pretty much discovers the dead body. That poor girl. I'd be having nightmares by now if I were here.

I had my suspicions in the beginning of the movie, but they all turned out to be wrong. Once again, we do not learn about the motive until close to the end of the movie. However, the person who committed the murder is a supporting character throughout the movie. We just don't know the full story until she confesses everything to Hannah. At least she doesn't hold Hannah at gunpoint as in the previous movies when she is with the person who committed the murder. This person is genuinely a good person and deeply regrets her spontaneous move to kill the guy. While this was wrong of her to do, so very wrong, I also felt her pain. Hannah seemed to as well, but she did the right thing by turning her in to the police.

The movie does, however, end on a happy note. Andrea, Hannah's sister, delivers a healthy baby girl and they decide that the baby's middle name will be Hannah. That is one close knit family and I truly adore their relationship.

This movie has a little sub-mystery that was kind of cool. Hannah was tasked with recreating a recipe, but there was a secret ingredient in it that no one could figure out what it was. Eventually they did figure it out. I would like to have seen a little more of this mystery unfolding, but I guess there's only so much that can be done with it without taking away from the rest of the plot.

So that wraps up the first four movies in the "Murder, She Baked" series. I will have to wait a little while longer to see the next two, but as soon as I watch them I'll be sure to review them!
