The sun is rising on a new season and I took my first walk of spring '22 this morning around sunrise. Every time I set out to take my morning walk, I have a time limit in mind. "Thirty minutes", I say. That rarely holds true. I've been known to easily turn thirty minutes into two hours.
Today it was "just" one hour. I started my walk not long before sunrise and I got to the top of the hill in time to watch the sky transform into a new day. I always enjoy seeing other people out at the same time as I am. There are the teens walking to school (a site that ceased to exist for a while during the pandemic), joggers getting their morning run either alone or with companions, and dog walkers (or in some cases, dogs walking their humans).
Today I stopped to chat with one dog walker in particular. I've been seeing her for years during my morning walks, but until today, I had not seen her in a few months. She told me her dog crossed Rainbow Bridge in December. I was sad to hear this news, but today she was walking her new dog who is just over one year old. The dog, whose name I can't remember at the moment, is part corgi and is a rescue. The dog was very timid around me, so I did not get too close. However, I believe eventually we will become friends. He seems like the type of dog who once he gets to know you, he will warm up to you. His owner is a very kind and soft-spoken woman and I'm sure she is training him well.
Early spring is one of my favorite times of year. The anticipation of and watching nature bloom again is invigorating to me. Here is one picture I took of a non-fruit-bearing plum tree with the sunrise as the backdrop. There are three of these trees at the top of the hill and they are always among the first to bloom in my neighborhood.
What are some signs of spring that you have noticed?
