I'm grateful for how far Qandi has come since moving into her "apartment" (a small section of the living room). Although I've accepted the fact that her blindness will not get better, she is coping with it better than she was before. Being in a smaller space seems to be more comforting to her. Even when I temporarily remove the barrier, most of the time she still stays in her apartment. Occasionally, she does roam away from it a bit. In those cases, I allow her to explore until it appears she's had enough. Then I guide her back to her apartment. I let her do the walking unless it looks like she's about to go somewhere like behind the couch. Then I just pick her up and carry her.
I am also coping better since I figured out the easiest way to take care of her with a good system in place. She doesn't hiss (out of frustration) nearly as often as she had been doing, she doesn't meow at night anymore, and she is eating better than ever. She's also drinking more water than she used to, which is definitely a good thing. I wouldn't be surprised if she's gained a little weight, which, for her, is also a good thing. I love seeing her stretch her legs when I visit with her first thing in the morning because it means she had been sitting or lying down peacefully for a long time (contrary to the constant pacing she used to do).
Recently, I did allow her to roam a bit in what I now call my Wellness Room. It had been a long time since she was in there. She spun in circles a lot, but at times she just sat and appeared to be listening to me type on the computer. This picture is from that day.
Q is for quiet.
