I was completely distraught by the tragedies of losing Natasha Romanoff, Tony Stark, and Captain America, in "Endgame" (which, admittedly, does not even begin to compare to the recent real-life tragedy of losing "Black Panther" star, Chadwick Boseman, far too soon. I'm still in shock over his passing.) However, I watched "Spider-Man: Far From Home" before the passing of Chadwick Boseman and I felt uplifted by the refreshing youthful vibe to it. (Perhaps I need to watch it again to recapture that feeling.) After experiencing such tragic losses in "Endgame", "Far From Home" was a nice contrast.
When I first started watching the movie, I was confused by the Whitney Houston song, "I Will Always Love You", that was playing. In fact, I thought it had nothing to do with the movie, so I skipped over it! It wasn't until I re-watched the movie, that I understood the meaning of it. "I Will Always Love You" is a song that is deeply personal to me and to hear it played in tribute to our lost avengers made it all the more touching. This was a very tasteful and much needed way to honor those who have played pivotal roles in Marvel movies. It was also nice to see Tony Stark play such an important role in this movie, even after he is gone. I really respect the way Marvel handled this, and now with the loss of Chadwick Boseman, it gives me hope in the way they might proceed with Black Panther.
One message in this movie is that plans don't always go as planned. Another very clear message in "Spider-Man: Far From Home" is that things (and people) aren't always what they seem to be. Even on the cover of the DVD, Mysterio appears to be one of the good guys. I guess I should have known that something was up with a name like, "Mysterio", but I was fooled. Were you?
I was happy to see a lot of diversity in this movie with regards to cultural backgrounds. However, there still needs to be more diversity (in movies and television, in general) when it comes to people with disabilities. Disabilities was represented in "Far From Home", but only briefly.
I really loved Happy's role in this movie as Peter Parker's mentor. I think they make a wonderful team and I hope to see more of them working together in future Marvel movies. Another character I liked a lot was M.J. One of my favorite lines in the entire movie is, "I actually like it better broken." However, I'm not sure what to think of the fact that M.J.'s favorite flower is the black dahlia!
As if the entire movie wasn't enough, I was completely floored when I saw the mid credits scene where the video of Mysterio revealed who Spider-Man really is. I literally gasped when I saw it. The good news is that it leaves the door open for future adventures with Spidey!
I am sad that I've now finished watching all of the Marvel movies that have been released, but there is one I have not yet reviewed. I started writing reviews before I watched "Iron Man". It will be nice to soon revisit that one and post a review. I also look forward to seeing what else Marvel has to offer in upcoming movies that have yet to be released. It's been a fun ride so far!
Great movie! My only criticism is that it felt unnecessary to kill off Mysterio. He could have gone to prison with the Vulture.
ReplyDeleteVery good point, Mihail! I'm glad you liked it, too, despite that. :)
