"Rompecabezas"

"Rompecabezas" is the Argentine, and original, version of "Puzzle", which I reviewed yesterday. The plot and many of the details in the two movies are the same. However, I found "Rompecabezas" to have a bit more charm.

If you've read my previous reviews, you'll probably know by now how I feel about foul language in movies. I find it unappealing and I can't think of any movie where it enhanced the plot or character development. I was pleased to find out there was no foul language in "Rompecabezas". I wish they had kept that going in the American version that was released eight years later.

So, for that reason, "Rompecabezas" was easier for me to watch and enjoy. Don't get me wrong; both versions definitely have their edginess.  But I was more comfortable watching the Argentine version. 

This was the second international movie I have watched entirely with subtitles. (The first was "Parasite", which I will review very soon.) I thought I would have a difficult time with the subtitles in
"Rompecabezas" because the sentences were sometimes longer than they were in "Parasite" and they did not stay on the screen as long. I guess I could benefit from watching more of these movies to increase my reading speed! I soon caught on to the pace and even though I didn't read every single word, I understood what was happening. (It probably helped that I had already seen the American version.) If you enjoyed "Puzzle", I'm confident you'll enjoy "Rompecabezas".
