Celebrating 15 and 9 years

Today marks 15 years since I settled on my condo. Coincidentally or not, exactly six years later, I was voted in as president of my condo association and I remain in that position today. Interesting how it's also George Washington's birthday!

I am grateful for all that I have experienced and learned over the years. Volunteering to be the president of my condo association was the first big step I took in moving forward after Stephanie's passing and after my disability retirement was approved, both of which happened in 2010. This position was completely out of my comfort zone, but I saw it as an opportunity to try something new.

No one else wanted to do it, and I was actually advised not to. I decided to give it a try anyway. I'm stubborn like that. While I was committed to this decision, I knew it didn't have to be set in stone. If I were truly unhappy as condo president, I had the choice to step down.

Since I was no longer working, I felt it was perfect for me. I could keep my mind active, but still have flexibility and do things from home. While it can be frustrating at times, I'm happy to still take the lead on my condo board. It's empowering to know I have a strong voice in what happens in the place I call home. I am also grateful for my fellow board members who trust me, support me, and work with me so that we can make decisions as a team.
